Introduction

Let’s explore a butterfly’s life cycle in detail, including all four stages of life. All butterflies have “complete metamorphosis.” To grow into an adult they go through 4 stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Each stage has a different goal – for instance, caterpillars need to eat a lot, and adults need to reproduce. Depending on the type of butterfly, the life cycle of a butterfly may take anywhere from one month to a whole year.

Technology Integration Rationale

Butterflies are animals that illustrate an amazing life cycle. Their ability to transform from a caterpillar into a butterfly is a topic that is very interesting to children. This topic can be extremely interactive and engaging when it is properly paired with technology. Butterflies are often hard to find in everyday life, so technology allows for students to observe and learn about these amazing creatures without even leaving the classroom. Students can watch videos, read interactive books, see live feeds, and even sing songs about butterflies all with their access to technology. This technological experience helps those learners who might not learn best by just reading a textbook and who really thrive by being engaged in the material. Technology gives many different outlets for learning.
